Every August, the Roar of thunder rolls through the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. This is no malestrom, though. No dark clouds darken the sky; no jagged bolts of lightning strike the earth. A blinding glint of sunshine on chrome and everything becomes clear – it’s time for Sturgis!

Every year the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is discovered in the northwester Black Hills of South Dakota. Hundreds of thousands of enthusiasts (600,000 was the number in 2000) cruise through hills and converge on the tiny destination of Sturgis. This raly has been held every year since 1938 and gives amazing enjoyment for Harley loves and everyone else.

The region becomes a party ground. Thousands of vendors set up shop. There is food and drink, special items, races, hill climbs and much more. A vacation to Sturgis during August 4-10 will always be an eye opener. However, the rally is not without its excellence. Tourists can experience all different types of motorcycle joy. There are IMAX films to enjoy, based, of course, on bikes. You’ll also find a number of creative exhibits, featuring bikes, bike parts and bike gear. The entire city takes on the feel of an huge festival, with events scheduled from 8 a.m. in the morning clear through nightfall every day. This amazing occurrence was originally simply the meeting place for a motorcycle club. Over the past 68 years, it has exploded enormously in popularity and attendance. Experience numerous saloons, enjoy incredible dining options (paper plates are an essential!) and shop numerous vendors bartering everything from biker leathers to bracelets to seat cushions and more. A stroll through this menagerie will yield some surprising treasures. This is an incredible event, even if you have little interest in motorcycles or riding. While the rally is a spiritual meeting for likeminded motorcycle riders, it can be an incredible experience for anyone.
